Chargeback PDF Generator ("we," "us," "our") operates as a Shopify application that generates chargeback evidence PDF documents. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you install and use our application.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Store Information

When you install our app, we receive and store your Shopify store domain (e.g., your-store.myshopify.com) for the purpose of:

  • Managing your app session and authentication
  • Tracking your usage tier (free vs. paid PDF generations)
  • Processing billing through Shopify's Billing API

1.2 Order Data (Accessed, Never Stored)

When you use the app to generate a chargeback evidence PDF, we temporarily access the following data from your Shopify store via the Shopify Admin API:

  • Order details (order number, date, amount, status)
  • Customer information (name, email, address)
  • Fulfillment and tracking information
  • Risk and fraud analysis data
  • Payment transaction details

This data is accessed in real-time and is never stored on our servers. The PDF document is generated entirely within your web browser (client-side) and downloaded directly to your device. We do not retain, cache, or transmit your order or customer data to any third party.

1.3 Billing Information

We use Shopify's built-in Billing API to process charges. We store:

  • A reference ID for each billing transaction
  • The order number associated with each charge
  • The charge status (pending, confirmed, or failed)
  • The charge amount and currency

We do not collect or store your credit card information, bank details, or any payment credentials. All payment processing is handled entirely by Shopify.

1.4 Technical Data

We may collect anonymized, aggregated technical data such as:

  • App usage frequency
  • Error logs (containing no personal data)
  • Browser type and version (via standard HTTP headers)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above solely to:

  • Authenticate your Shopify store and maintain your session
  • Provide the chargeback PDF generation service
  • Track your usage for free-tier and paid-tier billing
  • Process billing through Shopify
  • Improve app performance and fix bugs

We do not use your information for:

  • Advertising or marketing to third parties
  • Profiling your customers
  • Selling or sharing data with any third party
  • Training machine learning models

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal or store data with any third party, except:

  • Shopify: Your session and billing are managed through Shopify's platform, subject to Shopify's Privacy Policy.
  • Legal Compliance: We may disclose data if required by law, regulation, or legal process.

4. Data Retention

  • Session Data: Retained while the app is installed. Deleted upon uninstallation.
  • Usage Tracking: Retained while the app is installed. Permanently deleted within 48 hours of uninstallation (per Shopify's SHOP_REDACT webhook).
  • Billing Records: Retained for up to 48 hours post-uninstallation for audit purposes, then permanently deleted.
  • Order/Customer Data: Never stored. Accessed in real-time and discarded immediately after PDF generation.

5. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information:

  • All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encryption
  • Database access is restricted to authenticated application processes
  • PDF generation occurs entirely in your browser — order data never leaves your device
  • We follow Shopify's security best practices for embedded apps

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a summary of what data we hold about your store
  • Deletion: Uninstalling the app triggers automatic deletion of all your data
  • Portability: Request an export of your billing records
  • Restriction: Contact us to restrict processing of your data

7. GDPR Compliance

We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Our lawful basis for processing your store domain and billing data is legitimate interest (providing the service you installed) and contractual necessity (fulfilling the app's billing agreement).

For EU/EEA users: you have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

8. Children's Privacy

Our service is intended for business use by Shopify merchants. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 16.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the Shopify app interface. The "Last Updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
